A perfect score

Published Sunday, May 16, 2010 by Dave

It’s a real honor (just plain awesome, really) to be able to start this blog with with news that an Excel alum has earned a perfect score on the SAT. Andrew Kau, of Monte Vista High School, sat for the test last October and was told in November that he scored 2400.

Needless to say, the staff at Excel are thrilled for Andrew. And Andrew seemed pretty thrilled to receive a $1,000 scholarship check from Excel for his effort. (Yes, current students, earn a 2400 and you’ll earn $1,000, too!)

But Andrew isn’t the first Excel student to get a perfect score. He’s the eighth. Excel has a pretty good track record not just of helping students raise their scores, but of helping them get a perfect score. Nationwide, Excel Test strategies have produced 88 perfect SAT scores, more than any other SAT program company!

Enough boasting, though. You probably want to hear from Andrew himself what it takes to get a 2400. We talked with him shortly after handing him his check and he corroborated something we already knew: that getting a good score requires honing your strategy, which requires plowing through the Exam Club library of SATs.

He also revealed a suprising test-day strategy that we don’t teach; his own special way of releasing nervous energy before entering the room.
