A) t = 1/16

B) t = 4a

Solution for last week’s Math Madness question from 3/18/19:  Part I is   D)  9π ;        Part II is   A)  36π

Part I

The formula to find fractional circumferences (FC) is:     FC = (xo / 360o)2πr

Substitute:                                                                      FC = (90o / 360o)2π(18)

Simplify and Solve:                                                             FC = (1/4)(36π)

>                                                                                               FC = 9π

Part II

If ¼ (or 90o/360o) of the circumference of the circle is 9π, then you just need to multiply the fraction of the circumference by 4 to get the whole circumference again (or you can just identify the circumference of the whole circle that you found already in part 1 of the problem.  Originally, the formula gives you the total circumference and you solve for a fraction of it, but if you take the fraction away it is the total of the circumference!  See the part of the equation that is in orange)

>                     (1/4)C = 9π

>          (4)   •  (1/4)C = 9π  •  (4)                             Multiply both sides by 4 to get rid of fraction

>                        C = 9π • 4

>                         C = 36π
